3 to 4 of us prefects had a chat with a teacher yesterday.

Since it wasn't during school time, the teacher was more friendly.

We told her of the problems we face as a prefect.

And she gave us very good advice.

When you put coffee beans, an egg and a carrot in 3 different cups with hot water, what happens?

First, the carrot. After being immersed it goes flaccid.

The egg is quite the opposite. It hardens instead.

And how about the coffee beans? They produce aroma with hot water.

So what does it really mean?

In life, we all will have to face all sorts of challenges. It is how we react to them that matters.

Some people will crumble under the stress and pressure. They just can't take it, just like the carrot. Another group will get more vengeful. They become full of hatred and resentment. They're like the egg.

On the other hand, some people will not crumble nor harden under pressure. Instead they take the challenge in their stride and produce excellent results, just like the coffee beans.

The teacher adviced us to become like the coffee beans. Never allow challenges in life to soften or harden you. Take them as they come and go through them.

So which are you? The carrot, egg, or coffee beans?
